Drinking Water: Why is everyone making such a big deal about it?
The science of water is very fascinating and has such intricate molecular details involving polarity, surface tension, viscosity, and cohesion. I can write books about water and its essence in the environment of the internal human body. I am going to spare the discussion however, and share the very simple and important facts you need to know about water to stay healthy…
This very delicious and refreshing liquid composed of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom makes up 60-70% of your body mass. The 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom bonds create one molecule of water (H2O). Take note that there are millions of water molecules in one drop of water, and yet your body mass is composed of about 60%-65% water. Can you guess how many water molecules are in your body?
It is very important to drink water. The average amount of recommended water to drink is 8 cups per day. Though we have all heard about that 8 cups number, the specific amount of water that each individual is required to drink per day is weight based. The equation for the cup amount of water to drink daily is (your weight in pounds) divided by (2.2) to get kilograms, then divide that number by (8). So if you weigh 140pounds/2.2 = 63.6 then 63.6/8 = 7.9 which is rounded up to 8 cups. Another example: 200pounds/2.2 = 90.9 then 90.9/8 = 11.4 cups per day. The increase in the amount of water which is needed daily makes sense when there is an increase in the amount of mass for circulation right? Let’s think about that for a second.
The purpose of drinking the right amount of water in your daily diet is imperative to healthy living. Water detoxifies organs, maintains body temperature, is extremely relevant in the digestion process, keeps cells and tissues in your body moist for their functions to occur, protects your spinal cord, supports the cushion in synovial fluid of joints so bones don’t rub against each other, along with many more functions.
When you don’t drink enough water, overtime your blood will become highly viscose, your kidneys will start having decreased functioning because it has been working in overdrive, your blood pressure will increase, your skin will lose its elasticity, your face will start breaking out, along with so many other things. Just drink the water. Drink. The. Water. What is stopping you from Drinking Water?? Set calendar alarms, mark up your large water bottles. Set water goals and start conquering!
